High iron ore (that makes steel ingots) is found in Stormhaven and lower level part of Rivenspire. Orichalcum is found in Stormhaven (rare), Rivenspire and the lower levels of Alik'r Desert. The base formula is as that the levels you can create gear for are also the levels of the area you can find the ingredients.
I personally keep all my mats since I have a couple characters, but if you aren't keeping your other mats (like ancestor silk) you may be able able to find ppl in area chat to trade ancestor silk, rubedite ore, or ruby ash for rubedo leather as well. The way i make most of my gold is farming rubedite and vile mansion. Farm vile mansion just farming for an hour i get about 15k then i go farm rubedite ore i refine it any temps i may get from it i sell them and then sell the ingots in the guild store.

I think it is definitely meant to be a slow grind, i can spend and hour farming cloth exclusively and come away with a stack of void cloth and only 2030 unrefined silk. Little bit frustrating but i understand the reasoning. I farm a bit, decon from dungeons and questing, but i ended up getting over it and bought the rest.
What are some good zones for farming rubedite? You don't have to tell me where you farm it, unless you're feeling generous, because i know how that crap needs to be kept a secret. Rubedite Ore is a shiny dark red ore. It can be found in any zone by characters with Rank 10 in the Metalworking passive or 150 to 160. When mined, a node yields three to four samples of the raw material, Rubedite Ore. Once ten ore samples are collected, they can be refined into seven to ten Rubedite Ingots.
